If only the walls of Wynand Fockink, Amsterdam’s oldest jenever tasting room and distillery (dating back to 1679!) could talk. They would have over three centuries worth of drinking stories from the likes of Churchill, Chagall and history’s most remarkable.

After you make your way down the narrow side-alley to Wynand Fockink’s snug bar room, order from the scores of jenever flavors (a Dutch gin) available to sample. Remember, the drink is poured to the brim of the hourglass-shaped shot glass so the traditional way to avoid spillage is by bending down and drinking from the bar. Though judging from the now misshapen bar surface, it’s safe to say that a little spillage won’t be frowned upon – Wynand Fockink has clearly seen quite a few jenevers in its day.
