Café Find: Claus Paris

Turn down a side street amidst the hustle of the Rue De Rivoli, The Louvre, and Les Halles and you’ll find yourself face to face with Claus – a true hidden gem in the center of the madness.

Claus has two parts, and upon entry you’re greeted by the épicerie, aka a small grocery store. Here you can get your hands on honeys, jams, muselis, and whatever other specialty goodies they might have on hand. Plus you can you can pick up baked goods to-go. (insider tip: while you might think “this is Paris, must get croissant,” do not skip the scone. It’s heavenly).

But for the full experience you’ll want to head upstairs to the quiet, quaint dining space and treat yourself to a proper meal.

Claus is the perfect combination of the classic elegance you yearn for in Paris with the contemporary touches you need. While it’s true that we love a modern Melbourne or Scandinavian inspired café anywhere, Claus is unique in its old school European charm. The menu consists of prix fixe classic favorites, the service is impeccable, and the faint sound of spoons clinking on teacups fills the dining room.

DanaDeLaskiDana is originally from Washington, DC, is now based in NYC, but is most excited when she’s traveling. She’s a street-food obsessed food and travel writer who spends her free time watching Anthony Bourdain reruns and exploring the nooks and crannies of her NYC neighborhood, Chinatown. Her heart is torn between Paris, the Greek Islands, Japan, and Penang, so her dream last supper would look something like a four course meal of sashimi, laksa, fresh grilled octopus, and a heaping plate of gooey French cheese.
