Café Find: Paramount Coffee Project Sydney

Opened in September 2013, Paramount Coffee Project (PCP) takes its name from the building in which it is housed ”“ the former Paramount Pictures offices, a heritage-listed Art Deco beauty built in Surry Hills in 1940.

A spacious, light-filled cafe with polished concrete floors, white tiles, high ceilings and a minimalist aesthetic, the PCP may be a cool and elegant space, but it’s the specialty coffee that people come for.

With a regularly rotating roster of local and international beans and roasters and some master baristas on the machine, coffee is the star at PCP. Food-wise, the menu is brief but interesting with a breakfast/lunch focus that has an Asian edge. My pick is the bibimbap (Korean-inspired rice and vegies). It’s served all day, along with a selection of freshly baked sweet treats.

A joint venture between Russell Beard of Sydney’s Reuben Hills, Mark Dundon of Melbourne’s Seven Seeds and building owner Ping Jin Ng, the trio are taking the PCP concept to Los Angeles, with a cafe set to open near West Hollywood in coming months.
