Cinema & Bar Find: Golden Age Sydney
If you feel like stepping back into the bygone era where the men were dapper and the cocktails potent, head to the Golden Age Cinema.
Located in Paramount House in Surry Hills, this small bar boasts a small screening room originally built in 1940. The old school 40-seat cinema is complete with low-slung wooden chairs, green velvet walls and old film projectors (that were found in the basement of the Paramount Building). Movies feature nightly (except Mondays), and you don’t need to see a film to grab a drink in the Art Deco bar.
The intimate, retrofit bar is dimly lit (perfect date territory) and serves a wide range of wine and innovative cocktails creations – Buttered Popcorn Flip anyone? However, the food menu is short, sweet and slightly savory ”“ so don’t come with a completely empty stomach. Aside from the cheese toasties, the creative popcorn flavours are a definite highlight; I recommend you give the Parmesan popcorn flavor a whirl!
The Golden Age Cinema definitely lives up to its motto; “The good old days are now”; cozy, comfortable and classy ”“ it truly is a golden formula.
