Cocktail Bar Find: Vesper Bar Bangkok
When hunting for a place to imbibe in Bangkok, many newcomers make the rookie mistake of heading to Sukhumvit Soi 11.  With flashing neon and endless options, the famed street is bustling with activity, but cocktail connoisseurs will leave Soi 11 thirsty and underwhelmed. Steer your tuk tuk instead to Silom’s Soi Convent where one-year-old Vesper Cocktail Bar & Restaurant quietly stirs up some of the city’s best beverages.
Scotland native Colin Tait is the man behind the bar responsible for crafting Vesper’s unique offerings. Every six months, he overhauls the entire cocktail menu with a new whimsical theme.  Vesper recently switched from a drink list inspired by the 15th century to one titled “Vesper’s Book of Botanicals: A Cocktail Odyssey.”  While the new menu is heavily gin focused, other spirits shine in drinks like the Life, Fortune, Love, Death with habanero, Don Julio Reposado tequila, lime, grapefruit syrup, pineapple, and hopped bitters.
Vesper’s swanky atmosphere is fitting of its British name. A marble top bar, dark leather chairs, oak barrels of aging cocktails, and crystal glassware give Vesper the feel of a classic English gentleman’s club. Position yourself with a Ginger Gimlet by the large front windows for prime people watching.
