Cool Shop Find: Totokaelo NYC
Nestled in a lofty and cavernous space, Seattle-based clothing retailer Totokaelo in Soho is the newest destination for the aesthetically-minded.
Totokaelo opened its doors on Crosby Street in September 2015, expanding its multi-brand curation of apparel and goods to New York City. The Totokaelo Soho store features a soaring atrium, winding steps, and crisp, white walls; it’s reminiscent of a Grecian villa but adorned with stylishly mismatched plants, natural wood, and oriental rugs. Its high-ceiled, maze-like interior is built for exploration. Each room is a discovery with a flair of its own, the Totokaelo Man man-cave and surprise outdoor rooftop pottery garden especially noteworthy; one almost feels as if she has stepped into somebody’s immaculately curated and covetable home.
This homeowner is evidently fashionable as well, hosting an impressive collection of high-end and original brands including Issey Miyake, Acne Studios, Vetements, R13, Rick Owens, Maison Margiela, Common Projects, as well as Totokaelo’s own label of classic minimalist pieces. Black, white and other neutrals reign supreme, but eclectic prints and pops of bright colours keep the array fresh. It’s luxe-cool, and it’s here to stay.
