Cool Store Find: Native & Co London

Only few steps away from the hustle and bustle of Notting Hill, you can’t help but surrender to the serenity Native & Co oozes from the moment you enter.

Founded by Taiwanese born Sharon Jo-Yung Hung and British-Japanese Chris Yoshiro Green, the shop specialises in locally sourced homeware by small suppliers and specialist workshops in Japan and Taiwan.

With backgrounds in product design at Central Saint Martins, Hung and Green rolled up their sleeves and got involved in every little detail of the shop, from the graphic design to interior, to the furniture crafted by Green himself. The finished product is a philosophical and aesthetic synergy between brand and product.

Japanese influence on product design is still very much present in Taiwan, as it should, given Japan’s involvement in Taiwanese history. But as contemporary Taiwan begins to develop its own national design identity as a culture of aboriginal tribes and region- specific crafts, the high levels of quality and taste are gathering notice on its own merit.

Native & Co London took on a task to promote traditional and specialised regional crafts despite the hardship of sourcing and liaising with small family-run businesses, unfamiliar with doing foreign trading. Hung and Green’s door-to-door approach brings a very special retail experience to London’s very own doorstep.
