Food Find: Jitsk Chocolates Antwerp
It’s true that Belgium is heaving with some of the best chocolate known to man but there’s something about the finesse and consideration put into chocolate making at Jitsk Chocolates in Antwerp that makes it stand tall in a market full of over-achievers. For an idea of just how tall the chocolatier stands amongst its sweet Belgian counterparts, a single taste of Jitsk’s extraordinarily sensual pralines literally brought a tear to this writer’s eye.
The discriminatingly designed space, which uses mixed materials like wood, glass, exposed brick and brushed steel in a contemporary yet minimalist way, keeps the focus and attention on the atelier’s finest chocolate specimens.
The first thing that draws you in is the glass display cabinet full of fresh, delicately molded chocolates which naturally brings you to the next (and probably hardest) task of selecting from a lengthy list of flavor combinations. If your mouth isn’t watering by now, eyeing the selection that ranges from (our favorite) traditional hazelnut praline to creative concoctions using refined and often unexpected ingredients like yuzu, yoghurt and earl grey tea will do just the trick. Thankfully, take home boxes can be filled with every flavor on offer ”“ just remember to load up on those velvety hazelnut pralines.
Jitsk Chocolates is situated inside De Konick’s brand new and wonderfully immersive Belgian beer experience ”“ Antwerp City Brewery. Visitors are interactively educated about everything related to beer and beer tasting, and Jitsk Chocolates have been carefully curated to be a part of the experience, standing among an outstanding selection of craft food makers offering local delicacies ranging from cheese, meat to chocolate.
