Modern Art Find: MaMo Marseille
One visit to MaMo Marseille and you’ll understand right away why this city is a European capital of culture. There is something truly extraordinary about showcasing inspirational modern artworks atop one of urbanist Le Corbusier’s greatest architectural achievements.
The landmark building Cité Radieuse, is a vast apartment complex built in the early 50s just outside of Marseille’s city center, which has now been transformed into a contemporary art center. MaMo’s founder Ora-ïto had the foresight to purchase the building’s rooftop, gym and solarium when it went up for sale in 2010 (he sold his Parisian townhouse and his entire art collection to do so) and has since used the site for large scale art installations exhibiting the works of Daniel Buren, Jean-François Fourtou and Xavier Veilhan to name a few.
