Restaurant Find: Bohemian NYC
Hidden behind Japan Premium Beef on Great Jones Street, lays a Japanese restaurant shrouded in secrecy ”“ an almost impossible feat in a city run by publicity and where speakeasies and members clubs are a dime-a-dozen.
Somehow though, Bohemian pulls off the member’s only restaurant concept in a way that weeds out the scene-y side of Manhattan and keeps in the people who aren’t fazed by being seen but are fazed by the food. Besides, you don’t need Manhattan’s glitterati at this restaurant to consider it cool ”“ the fact that it used to be Andy Warhol’s old digs and Jean-Michel Basquiat’s old studio is cool enough for me.
So how does one get into Bohemian? Well that’s the thing ”“ you have to know someone who’s been already and is also willing to give up the reservations number. But, if you’re savvy, resourceful and want it enough, you’ll figure out a way to get in (tip: Google won’t get you far).
Best Bit: A combination of their very strong martinis and the $55, six course tasting menu is bound to knock your socks off.
