Restaurant Find: Dishoom King’s Cross London
There’s a new Dishoom in town – and I would be so bold as to say it’s my favourite restaurant in London. Let me attempt to put into words what it is that makes this latest Bombay café the best yet…
Dishoom King’s Cross delivers a dining experience like no other – never before have I visited a venue that so utterly and authentically transported me to another place and time, and where the prices were so surprisingly reasonable.
When you set foot in any Dishoom restaurant, you step into a Bombay café of the colonial era. Every single tiny detail has been considered (something the Dishoom founders are obsessive about) – from the reproduction political posters of 1920s India, to the Indian street food-style sharing plates (not a tikka masala in sight!) and the deliciously authentic glasses of House Chai, in all its hot, spicy glory.
Dishoom has garnered great popularity in London, and doesn’t take reservations for less than 6 people, so unfortunately dinner usually comes with a queue. Brunch is somewhat quieter, however – and has the best menu in my opinion. So head to King’s Cross in the morning, order a granola bowl, bacon naan roll and a cup of house chai, and prepare to be blown away by the transportation to a convivial colonial era Irani café.
