Restaurant Find: Izakaya NoMad NYC
Nestled discreetly in the heart of the once kitschy NoMad is Izakaya NoMad, a new breed of Izakaya that brings a touch of hip-hop and sprinkling of street to the traditional Japanese Izakaya concept.
The restaurant’s whimsical interior complete with an Astro Boy mural, illuminated Great Wall of sake and a sizzling open kitchen creates a lively, casual vibe that plays the perfect host for group dining antics and late-night gastronomic reveling.
The well-priced tapas style menu goes slightly beyond the usual Izakaya fare with skewered delights like smoked bacon-wrapped mochi, beef short rib, shishamo (smelt fish with roe), and crowd favorite: chicken thigh with “yuzukosho” (sauce made with chili, yuzu and salt).
And with the stamp of approval from a slew of industry folks like Nakazawa-san, Wylie Dufresne and Dominique Ansel who frequent the restaurant for late night sake and snacking, the only risk is a good dose of food coma.
