Restaurant find: Mildreds London
Daniel Acevedo’s spring menu reads like a vegetarian porn script. The head chef of Mildreds Soho branch ”“ and the more recent Camden and Kings Cross spots ”“ teases tastebuds with bowls balanced with flavours from across the globe. Acevedo’s training in Greek, Italian and pan-Asian restaurants in and around Melbourne, as well as a stint in Chile, has strengthened his international approach.
The menu is rich with plenty of enticing options, but the Sri Lankan sweet potato curry with roasted lime cashews, coconut tomato sambal and a blanket of pea basmati rice is a standout. If you’re down for straight-up gluttony, opt for Mildreds’ classic smoked tofu, lentil and piquillo pepper burger or the Polish beetroot, white bean and dill burger. Note, every sitting should begin with at least one helping of the rose harissa hummus and smokey babaganoush.
The restaurant interior is reassuringly classic. Snug booths and artfully arranged frames line the walls, while a giant skylight and sprawling planter complete the back section. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a quiet day, you might even hear the London drizzle hitting the glass.
Delicious, classic, simple. Mildreds is vegetarian at its best.
