Restaurant Find: Riley St Garage Sydney
The team behind Bondi’s “Stuffed Beaver” is all grown up now with its latest restaurant offering, Riley St Garage. Enter a non-descript building off Williams St and into a dimly lit expansive space, which can only be described at industrial-chic. The backdrop consists of stripped-down brick walls, exposed metal beams which hang from the lofty ceilings, a leafy wall of stag-horn fern and a golden brick bar, which acts as the restaurant’s rightful centerpiece. What was once the car garage of shopping mall tycoon and Westfield’s co-founder Frank Lowey is now a revamped Art Deco garage exuding sophisticated masculinity.
Always up for a good service, we order their $75 tasting menu consisting of some highlights including the soy truffled oysters, kingfish sashimi with white soy and pork dust and spinach ricotta ravioli with burnt sage butter. Dessert in the form of an abundant platter is not forgotten.
No surprise here, our stand out dish is the pork knuckle. Cut through the crispy rind wrap and the meat falls off the bone and into the savory, mustard-hued sauce.
Start your engines at the impressive bar with freshly shucked oysters and a wide selection of wines and cocktails.
